Laborers’ Local Union 609 recognizes and celebrates the academic achievements and community service undertaken by the children and grandchildren of our members, and all those seeking higher education across Middlesex, Worcester, and Norfolk Counties of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The Christopher C. Murphy Scholarship Fund was established just for this purpose. For our inaugural year we believe awarding scholarships to the Class of 2025 is one of the most important contributions that we can make to hard-working students. As the cost of postsecondary education continues to rise, we recognize that students need all the financial help available.
This scholarship fund was established in memory of our retired Business Manager/Secretary-Treasurer Christopher C. Murphy. A 44 year Local 609 laborer, and 26 year Business Manager of Laborers’ Local 609 who also served as a LiUNA New England Regional Organizer for 2 years prior to being the Business Manager for Laborers’ Local 609. Christopher has been a long time supporter and advocate for those seeking higher education especially the son’s, daughter’s and grandchildren of the members of Local 609. As a proud Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Brother Christopher C. Murphy’s legacy as a fearless leader includes many triumphs and feats. He is very well-known and remembered for wearing his heart on his sleeve and the lengths he will go to help others, including all of the students of higher education he has helped support through Local 609 for over two decades. It is only fitting that a scholarship be awarded in his name.
The Christopher C. Murphy Scholarship Fund will award education grants to help defray the cost of higher education.
